Host Job Description

The Host monitors guests needs and the workflow of the restaurant and seats customers accordingly. Responsible for greeting customers in a friendly manner and escorting guests to tables. Being a Host updates the reservation book and takes advance reservations. Opens and closes sections with the increase or decrease in the volume of guests. In addition, Host may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Being a Host may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.

Responsibilities:

  • Engaging in friendly conversation as you suggest new menu items, process payments, make correct change and help with the beverage orders for guests;
  • Exhibiting a familiarity with daily menus;
  • Checking-in, storing, securing, and retrieving outerwear and assorted personal belongings for guests;
  • Speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations and responding well to questions;
  • Maintaining Spacious equipment in a neat and organized manner so it is acceptable for our restaurant partners and usable for our members;
  • Answering telephones and directing calls where necessary;
  • Practice safe food handling procedures at all times;
  • Wow guests with timely and courteous greeting and seating of guests following Sessions Host procedures;
  • Welcoming all members and guests to Spacious while creating a warm and hospitable environment;
  • Greeting guests as they enter, and putting them on a waiting list as necessary;
  • assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of guests;
  • Dress in appropriate attire and maintain clean, professional appearance throughout the shift;
  • Knowledge to properly and consistently maintain the space;
  • Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions;
  • Engaging with guests to ensure they’re happy with food and service.

Requirements:

  • Maintaining a well-groomed appearance (“having a plan”);
  • Practicing all general safety & sanitation standards;
  • Following all uniform guidelines;
  • Recycling products, where possible;
  • Remaining calm in a hectic, fast-paced atmosphere;
  • Ability to work in a standing position for an entire shift;
  • 2+ years of hosting or customer service experience;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with team and guests;
  • Requires walking / standing; lifting, stooping, forward bending, crouching and sitting;
  • Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule often including evenings and weekends;
  • Basic Computer skills;
