Sommelier manages the daily activities necessary for maintenance and promotion of the organization’s wine collection. Identifies and purchases wines for the organization. Being a Sommelier monitors the conditions of the wine cellar, ensuring optimal storage. Works with the kitchen staff to develop food and wine pairings. Additionally, Sommelier recommends and serves wine to guests. May require an associate degree or its equivalent. May possess or be working towards certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. To be a Sommelier typically requires 3-5 years of related experience. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.

Our company is looking for a Sommelier to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure effective beverage service in the restaurant;
  • Assist with effective operation of the department;
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the full wine list in order to assist guests with choices, make recommendations, and up sell;
  • Develope and maintain the inventory of wine, including purchasing and vendor relations;
  • Assist with the setting up of wine tasting and any other relevant activities;
  • Create and update the wine list in coordination with chefs and the Food and Beverage Manager;
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures regarding stock control and accurate charging to accounts;
  • Responsible for the service in a section of the main dining room or an alternative dining location;
  • Train wait staff on available wines and organize educational sessions for them;
  • Assist the Head Sommelier in preparing the restaurant for service every morning and afternoon to ensure guest satisfaction;
  • Wine list maintenance;
  • Keep wine cellars/storage clean and free from debris;
  • Staff education;
  • Ensure wines are stored and served at the right temperature;
  • Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and smiling.

Requirements:

  • WSET level 2 or 3 preferred;
  • Assist with the setting up of wine tasting and any other relevant activities;
  • Polished personal presentation;
  • Sommelier training or minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Sommelier in fine dining restaurants is required;
  • Assist with effective operation of the department;
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the full wine list in order to assist guests with choices, make recommendations, and up sell;
  • Ensure effective beverage service in the restaurant;
  • 2 + years experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward or similar role;
  • Assist the Head Sommelier in preparing the restaurant for service every morning and afternoon to ensure guest satisfaction;
  • Ensure that all staff are compliant with Spring Place policies and procedures, as well as city, state and federal laws;
  • Responsible for the service in a section of the main dining room or an alternative dining location;
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures regarding stock control and accurate charging to accounts;
