Anesthesiologist Job Description

The Anesthesiologist administers local, intravenous, or spinal anesthetic, records type and amount of anesthesia, and determines condition of patient before, during, and after sedation. Examines patient to determine type of anesthetic needed and communicates findings to appropriate medical practitioner. Being an Anesthesiologist may report to a medical director. Requires a degree in medicine from an accredited school and is licensed to practice. Anesthesiologist’s years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position’s specialty is the main requirement.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for obtaining call coverage by other medical staff members for holidays, vacations and other time off;
  • Responsible for after-hours call coverage for patients of the practice, in addition to office appointments;
  • Responsibility for maintaining a private office and all clinical decision making within the office during times of service;
  • Responsible for all risk management, coding compliance and quality assurance activities and functions in and related to the practice;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;
  • Participates in community service activities, including speaking engagements, writing and special clinical programs as reasonably requested;
  • Responsible for the standard of practice for patient population.

Requirements:

  • Must be willing to relocate;
  • Completion of five-and-a-half-week Commissioned Officer Training course must done be between the ages of 18 and 47;
  • Completion of residency or fellowship in anesthesiology;
  • Doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathic medicine degree and completed an ACGME- or AOA-accredited program of postgraduate specialty training;
  • Assists in the directing and coordinating of activities in the Anesthesia Department;
  • Currently licensed as a Physician;
  • Graduation from medical school of recognized standing with the degree of Doctor of Medicine;
  • Completion of an acceptable internship in an approved hospital;
  • Three years of specialized experience in the field of Anesthesiology;
  • M.D./D.O. Degree from an accredited College of Medicine;
  • Completion of approved Residency in Anesthesia;
  • ECFMG and FLEX;
  • A license to practice Medicine in the State of New York.
