Assistant General Counsel Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Assistant General Counsel to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Procure and negotiate contracts with insurance plans, pharmacy benefits managers and pharmacy services administration organizations;
- Develop an IP program and protection strategy and advise on global IP issues;
- Manage special projects as required to support the business;
- Manage outside counsel’s delivery of legal services;
- Experience in corporate transactional work including project finance, securities, structured finance, or public finance law;
- Sense of humor and flexibility to regularly incorporate the feedback of others into work processes;
- Develop, plan, organize and execute day-to-day operational compliance activities throughout the organization;
- Be the head attorney for the company’s insurance arm and pharmacy compliance;
- Manage and provide direction to certain Legal department staff which may include lawyers, paralegals, operational and support staff;
- 10+ years’ experience as in-house counsel and/or in a law firm with focus on technology transactions and intellectual property issues;
- Assist in on-site and document audits;
- Advise a large, fast-paced, forward-thinking organization on a broad range of complex legal, business, and strategic issues;
- Serve as assistant secretary of the corporation, assisting the General Counsel with corporate governance and board of directors matters;
- Manage outside counsel relationships that help to creatively, efficiently and effectively solve problems;
- Manage and lead members of Root’s corporate legal team and develop strategic plans to meet company objectives and priorities.
Requirements:
- Have the ability to make all levels of the company comfortable coming to your for advice;
- Have at least 8 years of legal experience;
- Be a self-starter with high personal accountability while working well in a team environment;
- Be organized, process driven and detail oriented;
- Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school;
- Admitted to and in good standing with either the California or Texas bar;
- Pro-active risk manager on both business and legal requirements;
- A corporate generalist with a broad-base of substantive legal experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, start-up environment;
- Have experience with healthcare and insurance regulations in multiple states;
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people and at all levels of the company;
- Ability to manage competing priorities and demands on time;
- Exceptional communicator that is client facing;
- Possesses a natural curiosity and interest for the business strategies;
- Ability to travel as needed;
- Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics. Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
