Systems Operator Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Systems Operator to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Delivers superior customer value by practicing personal touch customer service;
- Coordinates the work activities within the system service area and with other departments to maximize efficiency and minimize service interruptions;
- Receives and handles radio and telephone communications in the work management center;
- Responds to telephone requests after regular business hours in such a way that the member’s need is met without the member being asked to call back;
- Provides clearance, caution, and location orders on system devices in accordance with approved switching, tagging, and safety rules;
- Initiate preliminary investigation of system disturbances and complete disturbance reports;
- Updates outage records;
- Outages;
- Monitors system operating conditions in accordance with prescribed standards;
- Support Generation Dispatch and Power Marketing as a backup resource for BHC Rocky Mountain Reserve Group reserve activation actions;
- Provide support to the Generation Dispatch and Power Marketing personnel with respect to SCADA and interconnection metering;
- Completes work management reports and all other assigned duties that may include scanning;

- Performs updates to consumer records of all fieldwork completed and reported by field technicians;
- Receives and analyzes trouble calls and assigns crews for the restoration of service to the members.
Requirements:
- Experience in electric utility operations preferred;
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions;
- Attention to safety;
- Valid NERC System Operator Certification or ability to obtain NERC Certification within 18 months;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based applications;
- One year relevant experience required;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Knowledge and understanding of high voltage electrical utility operations and equipment;
- Ability to cope with and respond to stressful conditions;
- Experience with SCADA and EMS systems a plus;
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness;
- Degree or coursework in engineering, power line construction, power plant, electrical transmission systems or related field preferred;
- Knowledge of electric generation, electric transmission and/or electric distribution.
