Venous Access Nurse

The Venous Access Nurse is a registered nurse with specialized expertise in vascular access management, practicing in accordance with the Society for Vascular Access (SVA) standards and evidence-based guidelines. The nurse is responsible for assessment, insertion, access, maintenance, and monitoring of vascular access devices, including peripheral IVs, midline catheters, PICC lines, central venous catheters, implanted ports, and dialysis catheters. This role emphasizes patient safety, infection prevention, vessel preservation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

Works collaboratively with members of the CareTeam to ensure that patients receive skilled nursing care that meets their individual needs. This will be measured by Picker results.

Provides direct patient care as a member of the CareTeam.

Education is planned and provided according to care plan and predicted Length of Stay for every patient who is alert and able to comprehend.

Works with the CareTeam members to manage the patient's stay in the hospital based on anticipated length of stay.

Required Qualifications

1. Knowledge of nursing process, theories, and clinical expertise related to patient care, normally acquired through the completion of a nursing training program at an NLN accredited school of nursing.
2. Current registration in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
3. Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team of health-care personnel to resolve complex problems.
4. Able to acquire through training programs and continuing education technical knowledge related to assigned area.

Pay Range: $37.00 - $95.37

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
