Responsibilities
The Health Information Analyst (Medical-Legal Tech) is primarily responsible for performing the medical‑legal functions efficiently and accurately. The analyst processes requests for medical information from physician offices, healthcare facilities, attorneys, insurance companies, patients and/or their representatives. The Medical‑Legal Tech ensures that HIPAA guidelines are followed to reduce the hospital’s potential liability in releasing records or protected health information. The analyst must deal effectively with the public, medical staff, and other hospital personnel at all times.
Qualifications
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
Associate Degree preferred (HIM or other healthcare profession)
RHIT certification preferred
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1–3 years of job‑related experience
Prior job title or occupational experience: Medical‑Legal experience in a Health Information Management department or related experience, e.g., healthcare billing, physician office. Associate degree, HIM, in lieu of medical‑legal experience.
Medical Terminology or completion of medical terminology course within 3 months of hire.
Knowledge & Skills

Excellent telephone techniques.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Data entry skills and keyboard proficiency.
Notary of the Public preferred; if not currently, employee must obtain commission within 4 months of hire.
