District Court Judicial Clerk

In this role, you will work within the Minnesota Judicial Branch at the Trial Court level, gaining valuable insight into judicial and court processes while developing a unique perspective on the administration of justice through direct exposure to the work of the court.

This position supports the chambers of the Honorable Carrie Ryan Gallia in the Fourth Judicial District (Hennepin County). Judge Ryan Gallia is assigned full time to preside over criminal cases. From time to time, the assigned division or case type may change as operational needs require. Candidates with an interest in criminal are encouraged to apply.

In this role, you will support the work of the District Court Judge to uphold the court's mission of providing justice through a system that assures equal access for the fair and timely resolution of cases and controversies.

Examples of Duties:

• Prepare, process, and maintain legal documents, court records, and case files in compliance with court rules and procedures.
• Coordinate and schedule hearings, trials, motions, and other court proceedings; maintain judicial calendars and notify attorneys and parties of court dates.
• Monitor case progress, track filing deadlines, issue court orders, summons, and notices, and update case information in the court case management system.
• Provide courtroom support by preparing files, administering oaths, recording proceedings and dispositions, maintaining exhibits, and assisting judges during hearings and trials.
• Perform confidential administrative and clerical support, including managing communications, maintaining records, coordinating attorney and guardian ad litem assignments, and supporting jury activities.

Typical Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Six (6) months to two (2) years of relevant job experience OR equivalent amount of post-high school education and experience totaling Six (6) months to two (2) years.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of court procedures, court policies, applicable laws, legal factors, and related judicial processes.
• Knowledge of legal terminology, legal document formats, and standards of professional communication.
• Skill in the operation of personal computers, standard office equipment, and transcription equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions and establish effective working relationships.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, policies, and a variety of legal documents of varying complexity to ensure accurate processing and compliance.
• Ability to maintain complex records, prepare accurate reports, and exercise sound judgment in making decisions consistent with established laws, regulations, and departmental procedures.
