Payroll Clerk

Location: Montebello, CA (On-site)

Assignment Type: Temp-to-Hire

Compensation: $27–$32/hour

Work Schedule: M-F 9-5

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Clerk to support payroll processing and compliance for a growing organization. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate payroll records, ensuring compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations, and providing payroll support to employees and internal teams. The ideal candidate has at least three years of payroll experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive information with accuracy and discretion.

Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll adjustments.
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including timekeeping, paid time off, leave balances, and employee information.
• Verify employee hours and ensure payroll calculations are accurate and submitted within established deadlines.
• Support compliance with federal and California wage and hour laws, tax requirements, and applicable payroll regulations.
• Assist with certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage requirements, and union payroll processing as needed.
• Review payroll documentation and assist with reporting, audits, tax filings, and year-end activities, including W-2 processing.
• Respond to employee questions regarding paychecks, deductions, timekeeping, and payroll discrepancies.
• Process garnishments, child support orders, and other required payroll deductions in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Maintain organized payroll documentation and ensure records are retained in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Collaborate with HR, accounting, and other internal teams to resolve payroll issues and improve processes.
• Provide backup support for payroll and compliance functions as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on payroll processing experience.
• Knowledge of California payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll tax requirements.
• Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, or union payroll is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with Paylocity or similar payroll and timekeeping systems is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle confidential employee and payroll information professionally.
• Comfortable working in a fully on-site environment and supporting a collaborative team.
