Human Resources Manager

LHH is partnering with a well-established nonprofit organization in the Washington, DC area to identify a temporary Human Resources Manager. This opportunity is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys balancing strategic initiatives with hands-on operational responsibilities and is passionate about supporting employees while ensuring efficient HR operations.

The Human Resources Manager will oversee key HR functions, including payroll administration, leave management, benefits coordination, compliance, recruitment support, and employee relations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a collaborative environment where they can serve as a trusted resource for both employees and leadership.

• Compensation ranging from $30 - $42 per hour , depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

• Manage and coordinate bi-weekly payroll processing from start to finish.
  
  
• Review timecards, employee changes, deductions, tax withholdings, and payroll audits.
  
  
• Reconcile payroll data and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  
  
• Ensure accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality throughout the payroll process.
  
  

Leave & Benefits Administration

• Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA, disability, and state/local leave requirements.
  
  
• Support day-to-day benefits administration, employee enrollments, changes, and payroll deductions.
  
  
• Serve as a resource for employee benefit and leave-related inquiries.
  
  

Retirement Plan Administration

• Coordinate with third-party retirement plan administrators to manage employee contributions, loans, reconciliations, and plan-related inquiries.
  
  
• Maintain accurate records and support compliance requirements.
  
  

HRIS & Employee Records

• Maintain HRIS data integrity and employee records.
  
  
• Troubleshoot system issues and identify solutions independently.
  
  
• Generate reports and ensure data accuracy across HR systems.
  
  

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

• Partner with leadership to support recruitment efforts across the organization.
  
  
• Coordinate onboarding activities and help deliver a positive new hire experience.
  
  
• Assist with hiring processes, candidate communication, and employee integration.
  
  

Compliance & Employee Support

• Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  
  
• Administer HR policies and procedures.
  
  
• Provide guidance and support to employees and supervisors on HR-related matters.
  
  

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, workflows, and documentation.
  
  
• Drive initiatives that increase efficiency, accuracy, and the overall employee experience.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  
  
• 4+ years of progressive Human Resources or People Operations experience.
  
  
• Strong experience with payroll administration and employee leave management.
  
  
• Knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, and benefits administration.
  
  
• Experience working with HRIS systems and resolving system-related issues.
  
  
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and support diverse teams.
  
  
• Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and follow-through skills.
  
  
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  
  
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and employees.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar HR certification.
  
  
• Experience with retirement plan administration and employee benefits programs.
