Legal Assistant Paralegal

Company Description Gilman, McLaughlin & Hanrahan, LLP is a small general practice law firm serving individuals and businesses in Boston, eastern Massachusetts, and Cape Cod since 1975. The firm combines large-firm capabilities with the personal attention and cost-conscious approach of a smaller practice. Role Description Responsibilities Assist the partner with all aspects of Summary Process/eviction cases, from initial client intake through trial and post-judgment proceedings. Prepare and organize Notices to Quit, pleadings, motions, discovery, exhibits, affidavits, and other litigation documents. Prepare and maintain case files, chronologies, rent ledgers, notices, correspondence, and supporting documentation. Track court deadlines, hearing dates, filing requirements, service requirements, and other case milestones. Assist with preparation for Housing Court hearings, mediations, and trials. Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, tenants, courts, constables/sheriffs, and property management personnel. Assist with electronic court filings and maintaining accurate electronic and paper files. Review documents carefully for accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Manage multiple cases and competing deadlines while maintaining a high level of organization. Perform other litigation and administrative duties as needed. Qualifications Required: Prior experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or litigation assistant, preferably in landlord-tenant or civil litigation. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Exceptional attention to detail. Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines without constant supervision. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Outlook. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Massachusetts Summary Process or Housing Court practice. Familiarity with Massachusetts landlord-tenant law and eviction procedures. Experience preparing pleadings, motions, discovery, exhibits, and trial materials. Experience with Massachusetts electronic court filing systems.
