Summary: The Senior Director of Clinic Operations (SDO) oversees operations for Community Medicine’s Eastern Region, a complex and growing veterinary medical program with locations in New York, NY and Miami, FL. This is a fast-paced, challenging and exciting role that requires strong people leadership experience, including the ability to achieve goals through effective collaboration, change leadership and staff development. The ASPCA’s Community Medicine (CM) team provides expert veterinary care to support the welfare of animals and their people through our stationary and mobile veterinary clinics, serving the most underserved communities in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. We help pet owners overcome barriers to care, bringing quality services directly to the communities that need us most and partially or fully subsidizing the cost of basic and preventive care. CM treats people and pets with dignity and respect, assisting pet owners in making informed decisions about their pets’ health and wellbeing regardless of their financial circumstances. What You’ll Do: As a key member of the Regional Management Team, you will work closely with veterinary medical leadership to ensure CM programs in your region function at a high level with top-performing teams, outstanding animal care and superb client experience. The SDO helps inform CM’s national strategy and executes it throughout the region. The Senior Director of Clinic Operations – Eastern Region, reports directly to the Vice President, Community Medicine, and has five direct reports. Where and When You’ll Work: This full-time hybrid position supports program locations in New York and Miami, FL. This is a hybrid position, and will require 3+ days per week commuting to CM clinic locations throughout New York City, with the ability to work from a home office when not on-site. While structured as a 5-day work-week, responsibilities may occasionally require early morning, evening or weekend availability. Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% annually, as needed, especially to Miami, FL. What You’ll Get: Compensation Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future. Responsibilities: Responsibility buckets are listed in general order of importance, and include but are not limited to: People Leadership & Staff Management Hire, train, develop and retain a talented team of people leaders charged with program execution at Community Veterinary Clinics (CVCs) in Miami, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, and for NYC Mobile Veterinary Services (MVS) Manage a team of 5 employees to succeed in their role by communicating clear expectations, providing opportunities for learning and development and building positive and trusting relationships Support your direct reports by holding regular effective feedback conversations, career conversations, annual performance evaluations and ongoing check-in conversations with each team member on a cadence that’s appropriate for their role. Foster a culture of respect, belonging and teamwork through supervision, developmental coaching, regular 1:1s, recognition, performance evaluation and feedback in collaboration with the ASPCA’s People Team Prioritize people development at all levels; a key responsibility of this role is to support both present and future leaders; identify talented individuals and nurture their potential with coaching and career pathway planning In lockstep with your partners on the Regional Management Team (RMT) - the Medical Director and Director of Nursing - monitor quality and productivity of CM’s East Coast programs through frequent in-person observations and assessments Lead your team through transitions and change; promote resiliency and effective adoption of new ways of working, maintaining consistent communication and expectations across teams. Foster frequent, open communication to ensure staff have timely, relevant information to excel in their work, understand the logic behind decisions, feel heard and empowered to give feedback Support a safe and secure workplace by ensuring adherence to all safety guidelines in partnership with the ASPCA’s Safety & Security team Complete quarterly goal reviews, annual performance evaluations and recommend merit increases; coach direct reports to do the same Strategy & Program Execution Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Business Operations, and RMT colleagues to inform & execute CM’s national strategy Support Directors in executing consistent, smooth and effective clinic operations, deliver CM’s four departmental priorities: team engagement, animal care, client experience and operational excellence, balancing operational efficiency with medical quality, patient care standards, and employee wellbeing Develop plans to achieve departmental goals and effectively implement; ensure NY and Miami programs meet CM’s national standards and adhere to all standard operating procedures Collaborate and strategize with RMT peers to achieve CM goals and align programming with CM’s core mission Ensure teams, facilities, and funds are deployed effectively and efficiently in alignment with ASPCA priorities and program budget In partnership with the Talent Acquisition Team, lead the effort to attract and retain talent Conduct ongoing analyses of operations to identify areas of improvement and adoption of new tools and/or processes Regularly review key metrics, interpret and identify relevant trends; use data to monitor program performance/results and anticipate future needs; be prepared to present findings and plans for follow up to internal & external audiences Develop strong, collaborative working relationships with key internal partners: People Team, Legal/Safety, Strategy and Research, Facilities, Real Estate and Capital Projects, Advancement, Client and Member Services, Government Relations, Communications, IT and others; welcome their input to maximize program effectiveness and/or minimize organizational risk Collaborate with internal ASPCA partners such as Feline Programs, Client & Member Support, Government Relations to support organizational priorities Support the Advancement Team’s fundraising efforts by providing content for donor proposals and reports; orchestrate donor visits and other activities as requested Work effectively with inter-agency partners – other animal welfare groups or municipal animal services agencies – to achieve ASPCA priorities in the region Represent CM on cross-departmental projects as needed Qualifications: Strong leadership and management skills with an emphasis on collaboration and results-oriented teams Highly motivated self-starter; able to lead projects and complex operations with limited guidance Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrates critical thinking skills and timely decision-making Ability to work well under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, operate effectively in ambiguity, make decisions quickly and juggle multiple priorities simultaneously Strong sense of integrity and discretion; ability to handle sensitive information and issues while maintaining complete confidentiality Proficiency with computers including Microsoft office Ability to exemplify ASPCA’s core values and behavioral competencies Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience required Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing complex operations required; experience managing complex operations in a setting with multiple locations highly preferred Experience managing complex veterinary operations in a regional, multi-unit capacity highly preferred Minimum of 3 years’ experience tracking and assessing data to guide business decisions and evaluate progress toward goals and priorities required 2 years’ experience managing budgets or overseeing financials required Minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising and developing people managers required Language: English (Required) Education and Work Experience: Bachelors The ASPCA was founded in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment by humans and must be protected under the law.
