Job Opportunity – Pediatric Cardiac & Medical Critical Care Registered Nurse – Virginia

Start Date: October 2026

Location: Central Virginia

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 13-week contract; 36 or 48 hours per week; Night shift; 3 weekends per six-week schedule; Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays

Highlights

• Combined pediatric cardiac and medical critical care unit with high census and high acuity patients
• Cardiac cases include DORV, TOF, HLHS, Norwood procedures, TGA, and heart transplant patients
• Medical cases include TBI, DKA, trauma, seizures, post-op ortho/neuro cases, and liver/kidney transplant patients
• Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity; 25-bed unit with average daily census of 23
• Epic electronic medical record system; 24 hours of orientation provided
• Advanced equipment exposure including ECMO, VADs, and CRRT
• May float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
• Up to 40 hours of time off available (not during first 2 weeks of contract)

Requirements

• Active Virginia RN license (pending accepted; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• BLS and PALS certifications required
• Pediatric cardiac experience strongly preferred
• Epic charting system experience required
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Patient ratio experience of 1:2 required
• Proficiency in pediatric critical care skills including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, arterial line management, chest tube management, and administration of IV vasopressors
• Experience with neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
• Flu vaccination required (no exemptions); COVID-19 vaccination not required
• BSN preferred
