# Job Opportunity – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) RN – Virginia

Schedule:

13-week assignment with flexible scheduling options: 36 or 48-hour work weeks on a rotating schedule. Three weekends per six-week schedule required. Must work 2 of 3 winter holidays. May be required to float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs.

Highlights:

- Combined pediatric cardiac and medical critical care environment with high census and high acuity- Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity level; daily census of approximately 23 patients in a 25-bed unit- Epic charting system with 24 hours of orientation provided- Work with diverse patient population including cardiac diagnoses (DORV, TOF, HLHS, heart transplant) and medical cases (trauma, DKA, RSV, post-op cases including organ transplants)- Exposure to advanced equipment and therapies including ECMO, VADs, and CRRT- Up to 40 hours approved time off available during contract (no time off approved during first 2 weeks)

Requirements:

- Minimum 2 years of pediatric critical care experience required- Current Virginia RN license or ability to obtain (pending licenses accepted; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)- BLS and PALS certifications required- Epic charting experience required- Pediatric cardiac experience strongly preferred- Trauma Level I experience preferred- Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)- Nursys verification and professional references required at submission

Clinical Skills:

Strong clinical competency required in pediatric critical care procedures including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, arterial line management, central line care, administration of vasopressors, chest tube management, interpretation of ABGs and dysrhythmias, care of ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP management, tracheostomy care, and pediatric dosage calculations. Experience with specialty equipment such as ECMO, CRRT, and high-flow nasal cannula is highly valued.
