Full-Time Nurse Practitioner for Holistic Community Care in Schools

Work Environment

This position is based onsite at a local school in Ellicott City, where you will engage directly with students, families, and school staff. Our work environment is team-oriented and community-focused, emphasizing collaboration and open communication. You will work approximately 40 hours per week, primarily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with occasional hours until 8:00 p.m. for evening clinics and participation in outreach events, such as health fairs on weekends. This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of students and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough health assessments and screenings for students, including taking comprehensive medical histories and performing physical examinations.
• Diagnose and manage acute conditions such as infections, injuries, and chronic diseases like asthma or diabetes, providing timely interventions and follow-up care.
• Implement and promote preventive health measures and health education initiatives tailored to the school population, such as nutrition classes and mental health workshops.
• Collaborate with educational staff and parents to ensure holistic care and address barriers to health access.
• Advocate for each patient’s rights and access to necessary resources, including referrals to specialists when needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations, utilizing electronic health record systems effectively.
• Engage in community outreach initiatives, establishing valuable relationships with local organizations to enhance health resources and educate the community about available services.
• Stay informed on current health trends, evidence-based practice, and policies affecting community health to continually improve service delivery.

Patient Population / Client Focus

In this role, you will primarily serve the student population within the school system, addressing a variety of health challenges while also extending support to families. The aim is to provide culturally competent care that respects the diverse backgrounds and health literacy levels of each patient. You will focus on promoting health equity, particularly among underserved groups, and ensuring that all individuals have equal access to the care they need.

Qualifications

• Current and valid Nurse Practitioner certification.
• Active nursing license in the state of Maryland.
• A Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, ideally in community health or public health settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to serving diverse populations.
• A passion for social justice and health equity, with an understanding of the various barriers faced by community members.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working within school-based health centers or familiar with academic environments is highly desirable.
• Background in developing and implementing health education programs.
• Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 to $200,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
