Job Title: Coordinator of Pastoral Care Department: Christian Life Status: Full Time, Exempt Hours/Schedule: 40 hrs/week, Monday - Friday with occasional weeknights/weekends as needed. Salary: $48,000 - $52,000 annually
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Support The Basilica of Saint Mary's vision, mission, and values by providing quality pastoral care and hospitality to community members in grief, transition, or need. Coordinate the parish's response to pastoral needs - including funerals, anointing, hospitalization, and prayer requests - and support a framework of caring ministries that foster community development and engagement.SCOPE OF POSITION
Reports directly to the Director of Christian Life. Gathers and responds to pastoral care needs of the parish community and leads volunteer teams involved with caring and support ministries.QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Pastoral Ministry or equivalent
- Experience in pastoral lay ministry programs or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and pastoral sensitivity
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and lead volunteer teams
- Organizational, managerial, and time management skills
- Budget and computer literacy; comfort with parish database and office technology
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift 25 pounds and navigate stairs
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed (average two evenings per week)
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Caring Ministries- Supervise the Emmaus Listening Ministry, including volunteer recruitment, training, record-keeping, and integration with other parish ministries.
- Coordinate all facets of Emmaus Grief Ministry: provide pastoral support to the bereaved, utilize Emmaus Ministers and Threshold Singers for those experiencing illness or death, and represent The Basilica in the Downtown Minneapolis Grief Coalition.
- Coordinate the Emmaus Homebound Communion Ministry: recruit, train, and match volunteers with parishioners.
- Coordinate the Emmaus Job Coach Ministry: schedule intake meetings, recruit and manage job coaches, and serve as an advocate for participants.
- Collaborate with the Liturgy Department on funeral planning and hospitality; recruit, train, and support volunteers for funeral receptions; preside at graveside services as requested.
- Collaborate with Liturgy to plan and coordinate special liturgies such as All Souls Vespers and Anointing Masses.
- Coordinate the parish Prayer Line and Prayer Shawl Ministry, including volunteer support, record-keeping, and distribution.
- Acknowledge all requests for prayer, anointing, and Homebound Eucharist in a timely manner; provide referrals and follow-up as needed.
- Maintain confidential records of pastoral needs and care; share with appropriate staff leadership.
- Serve as staff liaison for The Basilica Book Club.
- Recruit, lead, and support a volunteer committee; schedule regular meetings.
- Develop and maintain community partnerships and resources to share with parishioners.
- Coordinate annual mental health workshops and educational forums in partnership with the Mental Health Team.
- Keep website content and program information current in collaboration with staff.
- Work collaboratively with the Christian Life Team and attend relevant staff meetings.
- Meet weekly with the Director of Christian Life for supervision.
- Work in-person Monday through Friday, twelve months a year, with regular evening and weekend commitments.
- Enter into a six-month probationary period beginning on date of hire.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as identified by the Director of Christian Life.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $48,000- $52,000 annually.
