Education Assistant

This position completes education assessments and progress reports on a regular basis, and acts as a liaison for the client and school staff (counselors, teachers, etc.). They meet regularly with the youth at our program to connect them with educational resources, help with homework, and share updates on their grades. They also provide offsite support to the youth in the classroom. Duties and Responsibilities Work with teachers to provide educational support and behavioral management in the classrooms. Complete ongoing progress reports and upload to the client’s electronic record. Complete the Education Assessment within 72 hours of the client’s admission to the program and upload to the client’s electronic record. Contract client’s previous facilities/educational institutions for transferable credits. Complete a “Client Education Discharge Letter” prior to youth leaving the program. Assist in group outings and field trips with the clients. Complete incident reports as required and document in a timely manner. Participate in daily shift change meetings and regularly scheduled staff meetings. Assist in the milieu during periods of high activity, as needed. Work effectively with external representatives and/or community members to ensure cooperative and supportive working relations and coordination of client services. Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team (case management, clinical, education, medical, etc.). Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices. Participate in staff development, in‑services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma‑informed behavioral healthcare organization. Other duties as assigned to ensure successful operation of program/department. Competencies Understanding of and commitment to trauma-informed care. Commitment to a team approach while addressing the wellness of adolescents who have experienced complex trauma. Commitment to professional growth. Communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing in English. Utilize critical thinking skills. Maintain effective and professional working relationships with agency employees at all levels and the general public. Abide by accountability standards within Morrison, clients, and community stakeholders. Required Position Qualifications High school diploma required. 1 year experience working with youth. Bi‑lingual in Spanish and English, written, read and verbal strongly preferred. Must clear a language proficiency test for Spanish. Attained age 21 years or older before first day of employment in position. Preferred Position Qualifications Experience working in a classroom or educational setting. Other Requirements Blood borne Pathogens training required on the first day of employment. CPR/SFA obtained within 30 days of employment and kept current. Complete required program trainings and update as required, including a training in Crisis De‑escalation and Physical Restraint Techniques. May work at multiple ORR Programs. Pass a criminal history background check through Morrison and a suitability determination investigation through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Proof of vaccination (MMR, Varicella, DTap & Influenza annually). For positions that require driving Hold a valid driver’s license and, if driving a personal vehicle, must maintain a minimum auto insurance policy. Transporting clients may be required by using an agency vehicle. Working Conditions Environment: Work is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals can be interrupted. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants. Mental demands: Work may be unpredictable and disrupt planned tasks, requiring flexible time management. Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults, or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed and physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
