Accounting Assistant (Accounts Payable)

Accounting Assistant (Accounts Payable) Location: Long Beach, CA | Hybrid (3 Days On-site / 2 Days Remote) Position: Accounting Assistant (Accounts Payable) Industry: Trading / International Business Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000/year (DOE) Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (7 working hours/day) Language: English Required / Japanese Bilingual is a Big Plus Position Summary Our client, a Japanese trading company, is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant with strong Accounts Payable (AP) experience to join its accounting team. This position will primarily handle AP operations, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and account reconciliation. The role also offers opportunities to expand into Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), and month-end closing activities through cross-training. The ideal candidate has hands-on AP experience, strong Excel skills, and experience working with ERP systems. Key Responsibilities Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, and prepare payments. Reconcile vendor accounts and resolve payment discrepancies. Maintain accurate accounting records and enter transactions into ERP systems. Handle vendor inquiries and follow up on outstanding payments. Assist with Accounts Receivable, journal entries, and General Ledger activities as needed. Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and audit processes. Collaborate with the accounting team on daily operations and other assigned tasks. Qualifications Hands-on Accounts Payable experience is required. Experience using ERP or accounting systems is required. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and lookup functions. Ability to manage large datasets (thousands of transactions). Basic knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Business-level English proficiency. Preferred Qualifications Experience in the logistics, trading, or international business industry. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Experience with Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, or month-end closing. Japanese-English bilingual skills are a big plus. Work Environment & Benefits Hybrid schedule: Work from home on Mondays and Fridays after completing training. On-site work required Tuesday through Thursday. Initial training period: Approximately 2–3 weeks, depending on progress. Flexible working hours may be requested after 90 days.
