Educational Interpreter - Oak Lawn, IL

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter, supporting the educational journey of a high school student on a 1:1 basis. This role is conveniently situated approximately 20 miles south of Chicago and is designed to begin this summer and continue through the upcoming school year.

This is a full-time position aligned with the standard school calendar, ensuring a structured and predictable schedule while offering the chance to contribute significantly during ESY (Extended School Year) and the 26-27 school term.


Qualifications & Experience Sought:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting skills in educational settings
• Experience supporting high school-age students preferred, especially in a 1:1 capacity
• Hold a valid certification for sign language interpretation (such as EIPA or state/national certification)
• Strong understanding of the responsibilities of educational interpreters, including confidentiality and professionalism
• Effective communication and collaborative abilities with staff, students, and families

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct sign language interpretation for a high school student across academic and extracurricular activities
• Facilitate clear, two-way communication between student, teachers, and peers
• Support the student's social and academic engagement through consistent, accurate interpreting
• Adapt communication techniques to best serve the student's unique needs
• Contribute to a positive and accessible atmosphere within the school community
