Paralegal (Northbrook, IL)

FIRST Insurance Funding is a premium finance company that provides comprehensive financing services to agencies. This position is a mid‑level paralegal role in the Legal Department, reporting to in‑house counsel and supporting the Asset Management Department. Responsibilities Assist in day‑to‑day business matters concerning bankruptcy, loan documentation, internal and external client service, litigation, and inquiries. Handle loan‑related bankruptcy issues, including docket reviews, communication with trustees and opposing counsel, and preparation of motions such as Motions for Authority to Procure Financing and Motions for Relief. Support the Asset Management Department by drafting correspondence and communicating with third parties about the company’s collateral. Draft contracts, amendments, addenda, memoranda, and correspondence for attorney review. Respond to inquiries from and communicate with government agencies across various states. Conduct legal research using resources such as legal documents, online databases, and other references. Support in‑house attorneys and outside counsel with litigation management. Assist in processing legal actions served upon FIRST, including subpoenas, court orders, bankruptcy notifications, and motions. Review documents to determine deadlines and ensure conformity with departmental procedures and requirements. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of paralegal experience, with bankruptcy experience strongly preferred. Experience in a corporate or finance environment is an added advantage. Paralegal certificate from an ABA‑approved program preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. Strong organizational and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates emotional intelligence: self‑awareness, social awareness, and relationship management. Positive attitude and self‑starter who shows initiative and multitasks effectively. Capable of interacting with employees at all levels. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
