Job Title

Registered Nurse – IMC / PCU / Stepdown (Surgical PCU)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 4x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Up to 26 weeks available

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Surgical PCU unit that functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, including bariatric specialty and backup support to the trauma unit
• Manage ventilator care for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level) and provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Perform cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia management, and administer cardiac drips (no titration required)
• Carry out IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care including PICC line management
• Activate and participate in Rapid Response and Code team responses; maintain isolation precautions across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown settings
• Float within skillset as required; maintain patient ratios typically at 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4

Required Qualifications

• Active Virginia State RN license or active Compact RN license (pending license considered only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Vent experience required; proficiency with chronic trach patient care
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records
• Experience in a PCU, stepdown, IMC, or DOU setting
• Ability to work at least one holiday per 13-week contract period and meet weekend scheduling requirements (every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience managing IV drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Lidocaine, Ketamine, and low-dose dopamine/dobutamine
• Familiarity with orthopedic equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, and endoscopic tools
• Prior travel nursing experience; first-time travelers are accepted
