Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Day and Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience required License: Valid state or compact RN license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Previous travel experience preferred EPIC experience required Description: Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the side effects of serious illness. This unit will be providing symptom management for patients still under treatment. Common issues include uncontrolled pain, severe nausea/vomiting, failure to thrive, and fatigue. The goal is to enhance patients' quality of life. Ideal candidates are medical-surgical nurses who want to enhance their palliative care skills. Additionally, nurses may see other high acuity medical-surgical units through floating. Travelers starting prior to the unit's opening will float to inpatient units until their training is complete. This experience is valuable for exposure to various patient populations. Candidates are required to float within units of equivalent or lower levels of acuity. The position involves rotating shifts; scheduling is based on departmental needs. Changes to shift assignments are reviewed regularly but are not guaranteed. Candidates must have experience with pharmacologic and non-pharmacological pain interventions. Familiarity with equianalgesic dosing of opioids is also essential. The unit emphasizes providing high-quality, patient-centered care. The primary focus is on managing pain and distressing symptoms for patients experiencing advanced illness. Emotional and psychosocial needs will also be addressed. A supportive interdisciplinary team will be available for collaboration. Two professional references are required, one of which must be from a managerial capacity. Candidates must comply with credentialing processes promptly. All candidates must have education from an accredited nursing program.
