Regional Sales Manager

Utopia Lighting is a manufacturer of customized commercial lighting known for its Made in USA products, with product lines designed to meet Buy American Act (BAA) and Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) requirements. Utopia combines U.S.-made quality with operational speed, value-driven pricing, and deep technical expertise to support projects of every scale. The role We are seeking a Regional Sales Manager to take ownership of our West Coast rep agency network of roughly 20 independent agencies. This is a business development and relationship role, not an order‑processing one. Quoting and order support are handled by our inside sales team. Your job is to make Utopia the line our agencies reach for first. What you'll do (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary by the Company) Own the relationship with approximately 20 independent rep agencies across the West Coast region. Drive new business both by growing specification and order volume with existing agencies, and by identifying and recruiting new agencies where we have coverage gaps. Train and educate rep agency staff on Utopia's product lines, new product introductions, and sales initiatives. This is a critical part of the role: the people selling our product need to understand it well enough to help specify it. Run proactive, scheduled outreach to your agencies rather than reacting to inbound. Regular calls, regular check‑ins, regular presence. Travel into the territory 6–10 times per year for agency visits, training sessions, trade shows, and other role‑related purposes. Work with agencies on active projects to position Utopia products against competitive specifications. Feed market intelligence such as competitive pricing, product gaps, agency performance back to the General Manager and product teams. Partner with inside sales and technical support so agencies get fast, accurate quotes and layouts without you becoming the bottleneck. What we're looking for Required: Advanced AI literacy and utilization Minimum 3 years in the lighting industry. Strong working knowledge of lighting technology: LEDs, optics, drivers, controls, photometrics, and how to read and discuss an IES file or a layout with a specifier. Experience working with or within independent sales rep agencies, and an understanding of how the manufacturer / rep / distributor channel actually functions. Demonstrated new business development record, i.e. you've grown a territory, not just maintained one. Ability to deliver product training and presentations to groups. The role requires travel throughout the territory approximately 6 to 10 times per year. Resident of California or Nevada. Nice to have: Familiarity with the West Coast lighting rep agency landscape, including existing relationships. Experience with specification‑driven selling to lighting designers, architects, and engineers. Familiarity with BAA/BABA requirements and federal or MILCON project work. Experience with Salesforce. Why Utopia Lighting Utopia is small enough that you will not be one of thirty RSMs running a playbook someone else wrote. You'll define how your region is worked. You'll have direct access to the GM and to the factory. If you've been managing a territory inside a large manufacturer and want the latitude to actually build something, this is that job. Compensation and benefits Base salary of $85,000–$100,000, depending on experience and location. This is a good faith estimate of the base salary range Utopia expects to pay for this position at hire. This posting is not an offer or contract of employment. Employment with Utopia is at-will. Bonus: tiered bonus based on sales in your territory, paid on rep price plus Utopia’s share of overage, under Utopia’s written sales commission agreement. Expected total compensation (base salary plus bonus at target) is approximately $120,000 to $150,000, depending on individual performance and territory conditions. Bonus is variable, is not guaranteed, and is subject to the terms of the bonus agreement. Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage offered.
