Job Description – Patient Access Lead Representative, Inpatient Follow Up (2601881) Position Summary: At Stony Brook Medicine, Patient Access Representatives are responsible for completing varied, diverse and specialized duties to support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance and Patient Experience by accurately and efficiently completing tasks in Registration, Financial Screening and Verification, and patient throughput. Qualified candidates demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence. Duties Serves as the Registration Super‑User and Shift Lead for Inpatient Follow Up team, supporting staff and multi‑disciplinary colleagues in matters of registration protocols and process flows. Works to expedite registration function according to priorities. Assists supervisor in monitoring and coordinating staff work efforts to ensure patient registrations are completed prior to discharge, assists with "on the job training" as appropriate. Completes Patient Registration at Inpatient bedside, including required demographic, regulatory information and signatures, and confirming insurance eligibility. Reviews registrations for completeness and correctness and supports Registration areas when needed. Ensures that compliance regulations are met (including securing consents and regulatory signatures from patients or designee). Provides information on financial care counseling resources for self‑pay patients. Assists in audits of regulatory documents and signatures. Evaluates patient experience or internal stakeholder satisfaction issues and escalates to Supervisor or Manager as necessary. Contributes staff performance input to Supervisor to support evaluation processes. Must be able to maneuver a workstation on wheels through patients’ rooms within the designated registration areas, such as the emergency department and/or inpatient units. Qualifications Required Associate’s Degree with two years working experience in healthcare, hospitality or related industry. In lieu of degree, four years of demonstrated excellence working in a patient facing role in health care, such as medical office. Excellence in verbal and written communication, computing and multi‑tasking skills. Candidate must demonstrate experience and expertise in speaking with customers and can work well with persons who are under stress (such as sick patients and distressed family members). Preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish. Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative at a medical center. Familiarity with hospital insurance coverage and benefits verification. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Pay & Benefits Salary range: $54,053 - $65,891 per year. The salary range represents a good faith estimate of the range of possible compensation. Supplemental pay may include location pay for UUP full‑time positions ($4,000). The total compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and a state pension. Schedule & Location Schedule: Full‑time, Day Shift (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.), variable pass days.
