Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day/Night Rotating Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIHSS. Must-Have: - High acuity PCU patient experience. - Experience with heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls. - Interpretation of dysrhythmias. - Use of rapid response teams. - Blood product administration. - Management of central lines and peripheral lines. - Starting IVs and heparin protocols. - Management of cardiac drips. - Chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur-evac). Description: This position requires a registered nurse to provide care in a medical oncology progressive care unit. Pediatric patients may occasionally be present, but care is primarily focused on adults. The unit accommodates a total of 36 beds, with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care. Patient diagnoses may include solid tumors and orthopedic oncology. The nurse will be responsible for monitoring telemetry and ensuring patient safety. Skills in managing feeding tubes, PCA pumps, and intravenous therapy are essential. Nurses should also be familiar with utilizing special equipment such as telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, and Alaris pumps. Required ratios are 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for medical-surgical telemetry. Flexibility in scheduling may require the ability to float to other units of equivalent or lower acuity. Weekend shifts may vary based on unit needs. Candidates should possess a strong commitment to professional growth and quality patient care.
