Assistant Instructor - Adult Development Program

Job Title: Assistant Instructor Department: Adult Development Program (ADP) Reports To: ADC Curriculum and Program Director Starting Salary: $24/Hr FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary The Assistant Instructor will assist in the provision of an educational atmosphere where participants have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. They will assist the instructors in implementing learning activities in an instructional program that will result in Participants achieving academic and personal success following established IPP goals and objectives. Job Requirements Required to learn, utilize, and stay up to date with all technology platforms, including Zoom, Payroll Systems, Storii Care, Emails, etc. Set up program areas specific to instructional need as described in lesson plans, email communications, or via oral instructions Take detailed notes for each participant during class instruction and complete the data tracking by the end of each working day, to include objective notes Provide individual and group instruction following the instructor’s lesson plan, email communications, or via oral instructions Implement learning activities specifically designed to help participants meet the individual objectives as described in their long-range Individual Program Plans Act as an advisor for assigned participants Track individual program objectives for all assigned participants and enter progress notes in participant records to include how a participant worked on this and what help they received Submit data collection, chart notes, and progress summary to ADC Supervisor for review and to counselors by date assigned Attend scheduled staff training to develop and maintain knowledge and skills necessary to effectively carry out job requirements Treat participants with respect and dignity. All interactions should be constructive and positive Provide for and maintain the basic health and safety for participants When needed assists program participants with personal needs (i.e. pushing wheelchairs, providing nutrition, assisting with personal care) affording privacy as appropriate Class instruction begins at 9am; be in class on time Sit amongst the participants and assist them with answering questions, encouraging them to get involved in the class discussion, and assisting them with objectives and writing about how they worked in class, noting any areas of concern to address with the instructor Being proactive in doing what you see needs to be done without being asked Ask the instructor what needs to be done if it is not readily apparent Limit chatter with staff in the classroom, staff are in the class to assist participants, not to talk amongst each other Inform other staff in class when you leave for any reason so they can take over in your absence. Additional Job Requirements Additionally, you will be required to: Load and unload buses Assist in other departments as needed. Assist with pushing participants to classes Be at work, be on time, and maintain assigned work schedules Comply with all Ability Now Bay Area policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook Perform other duties as assigned Inform other members of your teaching team when you will be out whenever possible via email so they can plan for your absence. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent and two years related experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and demonstrated competence may be considered as meeting these requirements. Communication and Reading Comprehension Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as professional journals, governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and lesson plans. Ability to teach, train, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, participants, and the general public. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems and collect data. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to adapt to varied and changing circumstances. May be exposed to outdoor elements of wind, moderate cold, and rain while assisting participants with transportation. Employees are required to immediately clear or report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions in their work environment. Additional Requirements for Employment Submit to a current physical examination and tuberculosis screening. Provide a copy and maintain a current California driver’s license, submit a DMV clearance, and a copy of current insurance certificate for personnel file. Current fingerprint clearance (prints must be sent to the Department of Justice within four days of hire). Sign a Form I-9 and provide required documentation.
