Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth and safe surgical operations. This role requires adherence to established standards for instrument processing and patient care within a dynamic surgical environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist anesthesia, surgeons, and OR staff with procedural duties and equipment management.
• Monitor and process surgical instruments and equipment following manufacturer and industry standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
• Prioritize tasks effectively, adjusting to changes in department activity and patient needs.
• Use supplies judiciously to maintain quality care without waste.

Quality and Patient Care

• Support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care.
• Respond to unexpected changes in patient care requirements and collaborate with the surgical team to adjust plans accordingly.
• Assist in revising preference cards, instrument sets, and supply pull sheets to incorporate technological advances.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

Patient Satisfaction and Safety

• Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to prepare instrument and supply setups prior to cases.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient comfort and reduce stress.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies.
• Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system.
• Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient safety concerns promptly.

Professional Development

• Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment.
• Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new staff.
• Engage in ongoing learning opportunities and participate in departmental goal setting and in-services.

Customer Service

• Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare team members.
• Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and visitor experience.
• Maintain flexibility with assignments and shifts to meet department needs.

Education and Certification

• Must hold current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with registration and nursing education credentials.

Experience and Requirements

• Prior experience in an operating room setting is required.
• Ability to commit to part-time or full-time hours during orientation.

This position is located in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area of the United States.
