Sheriff's Behavioral Health Physician III*

Official Title Behavioral Health Physician III Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments/evaluations and mental status examinations (MSEs) of adults. Provide diagnoses according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) approved by the American Psychiatric Association. Develop and implement individualized mental health treatment plans for assigned adult patients. Provide competent psychotropic medication treatment and other psychiatric treatments. Lead subordinate physicians and oversee lower-level professional and paraprofessional staff (clinical therapists, nurse practitioners, case managers); assign, review, train, and provide feedback. Assist with writing work performance evaluations and participating in the hiring process. Perform related tasks as required to support the Behavioral Health Services Program in adult correctional facilities. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of medicine is required. Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education approved residency is required; certificate of completion must be submitted. Valid Physician and Surgeon's certificate issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate. One (1) year of full‑time equivalent experience in a licensed physician lead capacity within a public or private behavioral health or human services organization; OR three (3) years of full‑time equivalent post‑residency experience providing psychiatric services to an incarcerated population. Bruce: Ability to speak and apply for positions requiring bilingual skills (American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Vietnamese) is strongly encouraged; additional compensation may be provided. Conditions of Employment Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a credit check, medical exam (including drug and/or TB testing), and must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Must have a clean felony record and pass a fingerprint and polygraph background investigation. Shift: Available for various 10‑ or 12‑hour shifts. Travel throughout the county; valid California Class C driver license and automobile liability insurance required. San Bernardino County does not consider candidates requiring visa sponsorship.
