Overview

This role involves coordinating nursing care during scheduled shifts, focusing on patient and family-centered care within a supportive and professional environment. The position emphasizes best practices, relationship-based care, and adherence to professional nursing standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage nursing personnel and coordinate service activities during assigned shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and therapeutic patient care.
• Collaborate effectively with other shifts to maintain continuity of care and assume charge responsibilities in the absence of leadership.
• Oversee nursing staffing functions, including arranging and approving staffing levels, managing overtime, and addressing critical vacancies while considering budget constraints.
• Coordinate resource distribution, special orders, and document all activities and decisions throughout the shift.
• Ensure compliance with emergency preparedness, infection control, hazardous waste management, and regulatory standards such as OSHA and HIPAA.
• Utilize bed management systems to communicate patient flow status and coordinate emergency surgeries as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, nursing research, and event documentation.
• Conduct rounds on all units twice per shift to address patient satisfaction factors such as call light response, privacy, and noise levels.
• Coordinate patient placement based on clinical and demographic factors, ensuring smooth admissions and transfers with a focus on patient experience.
• Respond to and assist with emergency codes and rapid response calls, communicate significant patient condition changes to physicians, and document care and unusual events accurately.
• Promote patient safety through education and use of safety tools and techniques.
• Engage in professional growth by mentoring colleagues, participating in continuing education, and contributing to shared leadership councils.
• Maintain excellent customer service standards, promote ethical behavior, and foster inclusion and diversity within the team.

Education and Experience

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or required within five years of hire; enrollment in an accelerated MSN program is acceptable.
• 2-5 years of hospital experience, including leadership roles.
• Area-specific certifications such as ACLS, BLS, and PALS may be required upon hire and must be maintained.
• Proficiency with computer systems is necessary.

Licensure

Current active Registered Nurse licensure by the appropriate state board is mandatory.

Work Shift: Fourth shift, part-time schedule.

This position is located in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
