Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing and sterile technique to promote patient safety and quality care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and management of surgical instruments and equipment, following guidelines from AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical tools and supplies.
• Adapt to fluctuating department activity levels and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Use supplies judiciously to maintain cost-effectiveness without compromising patient care.
• Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to meet individualized patient needs.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to update preference cards and instrument sets as technology evolves.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

Patient Satisfaction

• Work closely with healthcare providers to coordinate intraoperative care and ensure timely instrument and supply setup.
• Maintain a professional, calm environment with minimal noise to enhance patient and staff experience.
• Exemplify excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
• Contribute to smooth patient flow by adapting to changes in daily surgical schedules.

Patient Safety

• Ensure strict adherence to sterilization protocols and maintain the integrity of the sterile field.
• Plan and prepare for surgical interventions tailored to each patient's needs, responding to unexpected changes as they arise.
• Follow HIPAA regulations and social media policies diligently.
• Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field through a double-check system.
• Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient care promptly to maintain a culture of safety.

Professional Development

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment.
• Share expertise by mentoring peers, orienting new staff, and cross-training team members.
• Identify learning needs and collaborate with management to pursue professional growth opportunities.

Education and Licensure

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the appropriate state nursing board.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively under stress and manage multiple requests simultaneously.

Work schedule includes first shift hours with approximately 24 hours per week and call requirements.
