Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing and sterile technique to promote patient safety and quality care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and management of surgical instruments and equipment following recognized guidelines such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical tools and supplies.
• Adapt to fluctuating department activity levels and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to maintain uninterrupted patient care.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to update preference cards and instrument sets in response to technological advancements.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient and staff experience.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and institutional policies regarding sterile field maintenance and patient confidentiality.

Patient Safety & Satisfaction

• Ensure all instruments and supplies are verified and double-checked before use in sterile fields.
• Respond efficiently to multiple simultaneous requests during surgical procedures.
• Promote teamwork and effective communication among operative team members to optimize patient flow and care quality.

Professional Development

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, and equipment.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for peers, students, and new staff.
• Engage in ongoing education and participate in departmental initiatives and in-services.

Education & Certification

• Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the appropriate state board.

Full-time day shift, approximately 40 hours per week, with call requirements.
