Supermarket General Manager - Turnkey Facility Launch (Confidential Executive Search)

A well-capitalized private retail holding group has secured the exclusive asset rights and master lease for an exceptional, turnkey 24,000-square-foot commercial supermarket facility located in the greater Baltimore County/Cockeysville retail corridor.
100% of the premium corporate retail infrastructure, commercial cold-chain systems, walk-in freezers, coolers, and multi-department gondola shelving are fully in place and intact. Because this is an asset-backed transition of an existing corporate premises, there is zero construction or structural permitting risk.
We are conducting a highly confidential search for a seasoned, systems-driven Supermarket General Manager to pilot the pre-revenue grand opening, manage initial inventory allocation, and oversee long-term daily operations. This is a high-autonomy, executive-track role reporting directly to the principal investors.
Core Responsibilities:

Grand Opening Logistics:

Direct all pre-opening operational logistics, point-of-sale (POS) systems integration, and initial bulk inventory mapping/stocking schedules in coordination with primary wholesale distribution networks.
Daily Facility Operations:

Oversee total store P&L, maintain rigorous inventory shrinkage and spoilage control, and manage supply-chain logistics across a 24,000 sq ft floor plan.
Workforce Leadership:

Recruit, onboard, schedule, and lead an active local workforce of 25 to 40 employees across all primary retail and hospitality departments.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance:

Enforce absolute adherence to all Baltimore County and Maryland state health department regulations, food safety codes, and operational compliance parameters.
Inclusive Community Engagement:

Ensure daily store execution, customer service standards, and front-line store environments operate as a welcoming, seamless experience for our highly diverse, multicultural local customer base.
Required Qualifications & Prior Experience:

Supermarket Leadership:

Minimum of 10+ years of direct operational management experience inside mid-to-large format corporate supermarkets or high-volume independent grocery assets (prior oversight of a 20,000+ sq ft retail footprint is heavily preferred).
Systems Mastery:

Proven, deep experience managing retail labor budgets, electronic cash-handling controls, front-end software, and large-scale commercial cold-storage hardware.
Regulatory Track Record:

Strong history of maintaining flawless local health department inspections and food safety ratings.
Professional Background:

Open to all experienced retail leaders; a history of running high-volume, systems-driven standard regional chains or large-format independent grocers is preferred.
Soft Skills:

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced retail environment.
Additional Experience:

Leading new store openings, remodels, or large-scale operational projects is highly beneficial.
Education:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience considered.
