# Job Opportunity – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse – Virginia

Start Date: October 26, 2026

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48-hour work weeks available, 13 or 26-week contracts. Schedule includes 3 weekends per 6-week scheduling period and 2 out of 3 winter holidays. Float assignments may include PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, and Labor & Delivery.

Highlights:

• Level III/IV NICU with 54-bed capacity caring for complex neonatal populations including extreme prematurity (22 weeks and above) and all cardiac anomalies
• Patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 for ICU level patients, 1:3 for stepdown
• Epic charting system with 36-hour orientation period
• Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, and radiology
• Advanced equipment and procedures including ECMO, high frequency ventilation, whole body cooling, and nitric oxide therapy
• Maximum 40 hours approved time off per 13-week contract; time off requests not available around Christmas or during first two weeks of assignment

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of full-time Level III NICU experience required; Level IV experience highly preferred
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required at time of submission
• Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certification required (can submit with pending certification)
• Virginia RN license (pending licenses accepted; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• Epic charting system experience required
• Experience with patient ratio of 1:3
• Strong clinical competency in high frequency ventilators, conventional ventilators, iNO, tracheostomy care, NIPPV/NIMV, CPAP/BiPAP, IV fluid and drip management, hemodynamic support, post-operative care, whole body cooling, and admission assessments
• Proficiency with IV placements, lab draws (heel sticks and venous), wound/drain/line care, ostomy care, central line dressing changes, ABG interpretation, and neonatal medication calculations
• Ability to assist with intubations, lumbar punctures, PICC placements, umbilical line placements, and chest tube placements
• Flu vaccination required (no exemptions); COVID-19 vaccination not required
• References and Nursys verification required with submission
• BSN preferred
