Senior Scientist II, Informatics - Computational Digital Pathology & Image Analysis

AbbVie seeks a Senior Scientist II in computational digital pathology to lead development of machine learning and computer vision approaches for histopathology image analysis. The role combines AI-driven quantitative pathology with immunology expertise to support drug discovery and disease understanding.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate machine learning and deep learning approaches for cell/tissue segmentation, classification, and spatial relationship analysis
• Develop and deploy image analysis workflows for multiplexed imaging datasets to quantify cell populations and tissue organization
• Apply statistical methods and model validation strategies to assess performance and generalizability across modalities
• Serve as subject matter expert in computational digital pathology, providing guidance on methodologies across project teams
• Partner with pathologists and scientists to ensure quality control and biological relevance of quantitative results

Requirements

• PhD in computational biology, biomedical engineering, computer science, or related quantitative discipline plus 4+ years applied experience
• Strong proficiency in Python with NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar libraries
• Demonstrated expertise developing image analysis and machine learning methods for H&E, immunohistochemistry, and multiplexed tissue imaging
• Experience with high-dimensional multiplexed imaging datasets, cell segmentation, phenotyping, and spatial analysis
• Knowledge of digital pathology platforms such as Visiopharm and QuPath with ability to customize approaches
• Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, image processing, computer vision, and machine learning
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills
