Brought to you by the A16 Restaurant Group, Lucania is inspired by Southern Italian piazzas. It will be a gathering place where coffee turns into lunch, aperitivo into dinner, and the room fills as the day unfolds. Lucania becomes a place you can return to at any hour and find it alive, adding a sense of energy and gathering that the Ferry Building has not consistently held.

We are seeking experienced Assistant General Managers with an innate sense of true hospitality and a genuine love of food and wine. In addition to our authentic Southern Italian menu, we take pride in a wine program rooted in Southern Italy. We're looking for people who are excited to guide our guests through a unique experience and keep growing their own knowledge over time.

Pay Range: from $85,000 to $90,000 DOE

THE ROLE

The Assistant General Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in San Francisco, CA, responsible for supporting daily restaurant operations and ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction. This role oversees front-of-house service, assists with staff scheduling, training, and coaching, and helps maintain standards for hospitality, cleanliness, and safety. The Assistant General Manager collaborates with the General Manager and culinary leadership on service flow, menu changes, and wine and cocktail program execution, including overseeing reservations and private events. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising shifts, handling guest feedback, monitoring inventory and ordering for front-of-house needs, and supporting financial and administrative tasks as assigned. The role works closely with team members to foster a positive work environment and consistent, attentive service that reflects A16 and Lucania’s values.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead and develop a high-performing FOH team — recruiting, training, coaching, and championing them every day
• Partner with culinary leadership and ownership to drive operational excellence and guest experience
• Work directly alongside ownership and our corporate team to shape an amazing wine and beverage program for Lucania.
• Cultivate VIP guest relationships and create personalized, memorable moments that build lasting loyalty
• Work with our Events team to grow private dining and buy-out business; oversee event staffing, purchasing, and scheduling
• Own the business: analyze P&L, manage costs, lead staff meetings, participate in leadership meetings, and execute strategic plans
• Develop and implement FOH training protocols, standardizing curriculum and schedules
• Manage scheduling, inventory, payroll coordination, tip calculations, and weekly finance measures
• Set the tone — in daily staff briefings, in how the room feels, and in the example you set

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 3-5 years of progressive restaurant leadership, with at least 1 year in fine dining management
• Demonstrated experience in successfully managing full-cycle FOH operations: hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and staff development
• Strong knowledge of Italian and California wines; ability to lead staff education. Wine certifications are a plus.
• Familiarity with P&L management, cost controls, forecasting, and reporting
• Working knowledge of California employment law and HR practices
• Current Food Handler’s, RBS and ServSafe certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• High Proficiency in restaurant operations systems (POS, scheduling, inventory management)
• Experience managing private events, buy-outs, and special programming
