Principal, Alternative Credit

Role Overview Ares’ Alternative Credit strategy seeks an experienced Principal to lead sourcing, origination, and business & brand development in the private markets. The Principal will build and maintain deep banking relationships, gather market intelligence, identify new investment opportunities, and drive the origination pipeline across public and private credit markets. Key Responsibilities Establish, build and maintain relationships with banks, advisors, and lending platforms across all origination channels. Facilitate deal sourcing and origination across public and private credit markets, leveraging deep relationships and regular contact with institutional partners. Develop strategic partnerships and joint ventures with insurance companies, pension funds, asset managers, and other institutions to create new sourcing channels and scale investments. Coordinate and quarterback execution processes for various investment transactions. Provide proactive market color and updates to the Alternative Credit team and across the Ares platform. Increase awareness of Alternative Credit solutions within Ares and support cross‑business adoption. Drive brand development through participation in conferences, panels, social events, and charitable endeavors. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or international equivalent required. 10‑15+ years’ experience at a top investment firm, investment bank, or similar organization, including capital markets, investment banking, leveraged finance, buy‑side M&A, structured product sales/syndications, or principal investing. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with deep knowledge of finance and accounting. Understanding of loan and transaction documentation (commitment letters, term sheets, credit agreements). Excellent writing, analytical, and presentation skills. Proven competency in financial statement analysis, business valuation, and finance. Superior networking skills and ability to source valuable information. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $235,000 – $250,000annual base.
