Automotive Payroll Processor

Position: Payroll Processor We are seeking a Payroll Processor to compile and maintain payroll records, process and issue paychecks, and support all activities involved in payroll processing for the dealership. This position contributes to the success of the company by effectively and efficiently managing payroll and achieving goals established by management to support strategic plan objectives. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. What You’ll Do Compile payroll data such as hours worked, sales volume, bonuses, commissions, taxes withheld, employee contributions to insurance and retirement plans, etc., from timesheets and other records. Update master payroll records by verifying and recording changes affecting net wages such as federal and state tax exemptions, insurance coverage, and data concerning compensation increases, promotions, or transfer of employees between departments. Compute wages and deductions, review for accuracy, and post to payroll records. Prepare and issue paychecks. Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Process pay for PTO, vacation, and sick eligibility and maintain balance accuracy. Assist in reconciling and processing all payroll related government and tax reporting, and the preparation, disbursement, and documentation of all withholdings. Work with Tekion and ADP to process payroll and resolve software problems and/or issues. Prepare manual payroll checks as requested. Provide reports requiring payroll information, i.e., earnings, deductions, budgeting, etc. Work closely with HR for employee benefits process. Respond to HR emails and assist with leaves (FMLA/CFRA/PDL). Escalate inquiries and concerns to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolutions. Forward all legal and governmental mail, mandated child support, garnishments, and record requests. Alert HR of any pertinent information related to employees, pay and timekeeping. Facilitate attendance and meeting scheduling for annual Open Enrollment periods in February and July. What You’ll Need Knowledge of the ADP/Tekion Payroll and Timekeeping System. Proficiency in processing payroll for multiple dealerships and/or locations, including handling variations in the process based on the specific store requirements. Familiarity with processing bi‑weekly, semi‑monthly, and monthly payrolls. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables. Knowledge of the 90‑day lookback rule (preferred but not required). Capability to efficiently manage high‑volume manual data entry while simultaneously processing payrolls for multiple companies with tight deadlines. Competency in working with large calculating worksheets and troubleshooting them when necessary. Willingness and ability to learn with limited resources (training will be provided after the complete setup of UKG and automation of worksheets). Knowledge of Dealer Built is preferred but not required. Familiarity with General Ledger processes, including generating and posting GL entries for payroll information, benefit billing, and 401(k) contributions. Proficiency in GL balancing and addressing questions related to the General Ledger. Ability to prepare final payment calculations and issue manual live checks. Knowledge of garnishment processes. Willingness to assist HR with various inquiries and reports related to payroll. Effective communication and the ability to resolve payroll issues or discrepancies with employees and supervisors. Capacity to collaborate closely with HR regarding employee changes and adjustments related to payroll. Flexibility to work overtime during critical payroll processing times and month‑end close. Availability to work 9‑hour days with alternate Mondays or Fridays off, except during critical payroll transmission times and month‑end processing. Willingness to work weekends and holidays as needed to ensure smooth payroll operations. Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment, independently and with a team.
