Job Description
Job Description
Director of Business Development & ASC Administrator
Puget Sound Pain Clinic
Puget Sound Region, Washington
Full-Time | Hybrid flexibility
Salary: $110,000–$130,000 annually, depending on experience
Position Overview
Puget Sound Pain Clinic is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial healthcare leader to serve as our Director of Business Development & ASC Administrator . This is a senior leadership position combining ambulatory surgery center administration with business development, strategic growth, financial analysis, and execution of new initiatives across an established, growing physician-owned specialty practice.
We are not looking for someone simply to maintain existing operations. We are looking for a proven healthcare operator who can identify opportunities, develop sound business cases, and lead approved initiatives from concept through implementation.
The successful candidate will serve as a co-Administrator of our ambulatory surgery center, work closely with our RN Manager/Director of Nursing and Practice Manager, and partner directly with physician ownership on growth initiatives.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building and improving healthcare organizations and wants the ability to directly influence their growth.
Key Responsibilities
ASC Administration & Operational Leadership
Serve as co-Administrator of the ambulatory surgery center in partnership with the RN Manager/Director of Nursing.
Provide leadership for the ASC's administrative, operational, financial, and strategic functions.
Partner with clinical leadership to maintain compliance with CMS, AAAHC, Washington State, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Maintain continuous survey readiness and assist with policy development, credentialing, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate ASC operations for opportunities to improve efficiency, capacity, patient experience, and profitability.
Develop and monitor meaningful ASC performance indicators, including case volume, utilization, revenue, expenses, staffing efficiency, supply and implant costs, payer mix, and profitability.
Assist with vendor relationships, purchasing decisions, equipment planning, contracting, and resource allocation.
Business Development & Strategic Growth
Work directly with physician ownership to develop and execute growth strategies for the practice and ASC.
Identify opportunities to increase patient referrals, procedural volume, revenue, and market presence.
Evaluate potential new procedures, surgical offerings, ancillary services, and other service lines.
Develop business cases and financial models for proposed growth initiatives.
Evaluate opportunities for additional clinic locations and potential future ambulatory surgery centers.
Perform market analyses incorporating patient geography, referral patterns, competition, demographics, payer mix, capacity, and financial feasibility.
Lead approved expansion projects from initial evaluation through implementation.
Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential growth opportunities and provide regular updates to ownership.
New Service-Line Development
Lead the evaluation and implementation of new clinical, procedural, surgical, and cash-pay service lines.
Develop implementation plans incorporating market opportunity, pricing/reimbursement, projected volume, staffing, workflow, equipment, compliance, marketing, and financial performance.
Coordinate physicians, clinical staff, vendors, legal/compliance resources, billing partners, and other stakeholders required to launch new programs.
Initially play a key leadership role in launching planned cash-pay weight-management and hormone-management programs.
Establish KPIs for new programs and evaluate performance following launch.
Physician Outreach, Marketing & Referral Development
Develop and execute a comprehensive referral-development strategy throughout the Puget Sound region.
Personally build and maintain relationships with referring physicians, medical practices, hospital systems, and other appropriate healthcare organizations.
Identify underserved referral markets and opportunities to expand the organization's presence.
Represent the organization in meetings with physicians, healthcare organizations, community partners, and potential strategic partners.
Develop systems to track outreach activity, referral growth, conversion, and return on investment.
Coordinate marketing resources and outside vendors as appropriate while remaining actively involved in business development and field outreach.
Financial Analysis & Performance Improvement
Independently analyze financial and operational performance of the ASC and practice.
Review financial statements, collections, expenses, budgets, payer performance, and service-line profitability and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Work collaboratively with outside management, billing, accounting, and other partners while developing an independent understanding of organizational performance.
Build financial models and pro formas for proposed service lines, equipment investments, expansion opportunities, and other strategic initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve profitability, control expenses, increase operational efficiency, and better utilize organizational resources.
Develop dashboards and reporting that provide leadership with timely, meaningful operational and financial information.
Strategic Project Execution
Serve as an operational leader for strategic initiatives identified by physician ownership.
Convert strategic concepts into executable plans with clear objectives, budgets, timelines, responsibilities, and performance measures.
Coordinate initiatives across the ASC, clinics, providers, Practice Manager, clinical leadership, vendors, and outside partners.
Proactively identify operational problems and growth opportunities and bring leadership proposed solutions-not simply problems.
Establish accountability and follow projects through completion.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare operations, administration, business development, or related healthcare leadership.
At least 3 years of significant healthcare leadership experience.
Experience within an ambulatory surgery center, surgical organization, multisite specialty medical practice, hospital, healthcare MSO, or similarly complex healthcare organization.
Demonstrated history of successfully executing business growth, operational improvement, service-line development, facility expansion, or comparable strategic initiatives.
Strong financial acumen with demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and operational performance.
Ability to develop financial models, pro formas, and data-supported business recommendations.
Strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement, payer dynamics, and the economics of physician practices and/or ambulatory surgery centers.
Demonstrated project-management ability with a history of taking complex projects from concept through implementation.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently, prioritize competing initiatives, and operate effectively in a physician-owned entrepreneurial environment.
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous ASC Administrator experience.
Experience with CMS and AAAHC accreditation and survey processes.
MBA, MHA, or other relevant graduate degree, but not required .
Experience opening or expanding an ASC, medical practice, or healthcare facility.
Experience developing and launching new healthcare service lines.
Experience with de novo healthcare development, acquisitions, or market expansion.
Healthcare business-development and physician-relations experience.
Experience with physician-owned healthcare organizations.
Experience in interventional pain management, spine, orthopedics, or another procedural/surgical specialty.
Advanced Excel, financial modeling, dashboarding, or business-intelligence experience.
Knowledge of the Washington healthcare market.
RN or other clinical background is welcomed but not required .
Position Structure
This is a full-time leadership position based in the Puget Sound region. The individual may be based primarily at one of our practice locations based on organizational needs and the candidate's location.
The position requires regular in-person interaction with our clinics, ASC, referral sources, and business partners. Some work-from-home flexibility is available; however, this is not a fully remote position.
The Director of Business Development & ASC Administrator will work directly with physician ownership and closely with the Practice Manager, RN Manager/Director of Nursing, providers, and other organizational leadership.
Compensation
$110,000–$130,000 annually , depending on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
Benefits and additional employment details will be discussed during the interview process.
Who Will Be Successful in This Role?
The strongest candidate will be someone who has built, grown, opened, launched, or meaningfully improved something in healthcare .
We are looking for someone who can see an opportunity, analyze it, develop a plan, gain stakeholder support, and execute it. This position offers an unusual opportunity for an experienced healthcare operator to work directly with physician ownership and have a meaningful role in shaping the next stage of growth of an established specialty practice and ambulatory surgery center.
