Special Education Paraeducator (9974 Sped)

Job Title Special Education Paraeducator Location & Department Mountain View High School, Special Services Hours & Schedule 6 Hours per Day (8:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch) and 3.83 Hours on Early‑Release Days (8:45 a.m. – 1:05 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid). 190 Days per year (180 student days / 10 holidays). Starting Date August 24, 2026 Must Meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements Be at least 18 years old and hold a high‑school diploma or equivalent. Meet at least one of the following: Pass a score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS). Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university. Complete a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council. Upon hire, new paraeducators will be required to complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District. Essential Functions Provide special‑education services and supports to elementary and/or secondary students under the direction of a teacher or IEP manager. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Deliver one‑to‑one and group instruction in accordance with individualized education programs (IEPs). Assist in establishing and maintaining learning environments as specified by curriculum goals. Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect performance data to gauge IEP goal attainment. Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests. Implement behavior‑management strategies outlined by the teacher. Organize and prepare instructional materials. Provide support for students’ personal care needs, including bathroom assistance, feeding, and handling body fluids when necessary. Assist with assistive technology, augmentative communication, and physical assistive devices. Attend required training sessions to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of students’ needs. Other Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Basic typing/keyboarding skills. Previous experience working with students in academic or special‑education settings. Effective communication with students, staff, and parents. Ability to work with and supervise students. Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology. Ability to perform under constant interruption. Physical strength to handle potentially aggressive behavior. Positive teamwork and relationship building skills. Salary Placement New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate within the classification salary range; experience credit may be applied for step placement.
