Lead Infrastructure Engineer - OpenShift Platform

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in infrastructure engineering concepts, with at least five years of applied experience.
• Hands-on experience administering Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes in production, including installation and upgrades, Operators, SCC/RBAC, cluster operators, and ingress.
• Experience with day-two operations and lifecycle management of Kubernetes or container platforms, including upgrades, scaling, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with OpenShift Virtualization, KubeVirt, or an equivalent VM-on-Kubernetes platform, including VM and container co-tenancy considerations.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, including system performance, certificates, operating system configuration, and cluster node operations.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting expertise in at least two of these areas: networking, storage, and virtualization.
• Experience designing and operating highly available platforms, including capacity management, incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation tracking.
• Experience working with security and compliance stakeholders on hardening, RBAC, secrets and certificates, and vulnerability management using secure-by-default configurations.
• Experience implementing infrastructure automation and configuration-as-code practices, such as Ansible, Terraform, or GitOps, with traceability and auditability.
• Experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities in infrastructure engineering workflows, with strong validation practices and awareness of data sensitivity.
• Ability to review and validate AI-assisted recommendations before implementation, escalate uncertainty, and ensure outcomes meet resiliency, security, and auditability expectations.
• Familiarity with OpenShift observability tools and practices, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, logging, and tracing.
• Experience with service mesh, ingress controllers, API gateways, or platform networking plugins relevant to the technology stack.
• Experience with enterprise storage technologies and their performance and failure characteristics in containerized environments.
• Familiarity with using generative AI tools for research, troubleshooting, and documentation within appropriate governance practices.

• Design on-premises or hybrid OpenShift cluster architectures to meet availability, scalability, security, and operational requirements.
• Build and operate OpenShift clusters end to end, including installation, upgrades, patching, scaling, resilience testing, and virtualization capabilities for VM lifecycle management.
• Engineer a platform for Kubernetes and VM workloads, covering capacity planning, performance, workload placement, and high availability and disaster recovery considerations.
• Manage the Linux platform foundations needed for reliable cluster operations, including RHEL and CoreOS concepts, kernel and sysctl tuning, certificates, and basic identity integration.
• Implement and troubleshoot networking capabilities, including routing and switching, DNS, L4/L7 concepts, load balancing, firewalls, segmentation, and packet-path analysis.
• Integrate storage services for container and VM workloads, including block, file, and object storage concepts, CSI drivers, performance and failure modes, and backup and restore approaches.
• Improve platform reliability through observability, incident response, root-cause analysis, and preventative lifecycle improvements.
• Develop runbooks, standards, and reference architectures, and lead operational readiness reviews and post-incident follow-up.
• Use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to analyze complex infrastructure signals and document mitigation options, validating outputs and handling operational data according to its sensitivity and security requirements.
• Lead reuse-first adoption of AI-assisted practices in delivery and automation routines to reduce recurring issues, ensuring changes are validated, traceable, auditable, and aligned with resiliency and security expectations.
