Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of neuro experience required License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Previous neuro experience required. Large Level I/II facility experience required. Proficient in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. Experience with Rapid Response and Code teams. Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care. Experience managing ports, arterial lines, and PICC lines. Familiarity with continuous IV paralytics, neuromuscular blockade, continuous IV sedation, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips. Knowledgeable in CVA/acute stroke management, external ventricular drain management, hypothermia protocol, ICP monitoring, lumbar drain management, and post craniotomy/post neurosurgery management. Experience with managing BiPAP/CPAP, care of ventilated patients, and suctioning. Description: This position is for an RN in the ICU with a focus on neuro patients. The nurse will work three 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Charting will be done using the EPIC system. Weekend requirements may involve every other weekend or six weekend shifts within a six-week scheduling block. Each nurse must work one holiday per 13-week contract. The nurse will be responsible for managing a patient ratio of 1:2. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, neurosurgery, and specific neuro conditions. Special procedures in this unit include therapeutic thermoregulation and management of external ventricular drains. Nurses may need to float within their skillset as required. Candidates should be prepared to collaborate with interdisciplinary support teams, including IV teams, respiratory services, and pharmacy. This position requires competency in various critical care skills and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
