Senior Medical Director, Early Clinical Development & Translational Medicine (MD)

Madrigal Pharmaceuticals seeks an experienced physician to lead early-phase clinical development programs and translational strategy for metabolic liver and cardiometabolic therapies. The role involves medical oversight of first-in-human through early Phase 2 studies, integration of clinical and biomarker data to inform development decisions, and cross-functional leadership across research, clinical, regulatory, and commercial functions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as global medical lead and monitor for early-phase interventional studies including first-in-human and Phase 1/1b trials
• Lead study protocol development including patient population selection, endpoint design, and dose-escalation strategies
• Provide hands-on medical oversight of study execution, eligibility review, safety monitoring, and benefit-risk assessment
• Chair early asset/program teams and translational working groups, establishing objectives and development recommendations
• Integrate clinical, pharmacologic, and biomarker data to guide proof-of-mechanism and subsequent development decisions

Requirements

• MD with clinical training in hepatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, cardiology, or internal medicine
• 15+ years industry experience in clinical development with direct medical leadership
• Demonstrated expertise in Phase 1 and early Phase 2 interventional study design and execution
• Strong knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, biomarkers, and translational science
• Experience with first-in-human and proof-of-concept program development
• Regulatory interaction experience and understanding of drug development strategy
