Temporary Mental Health Counselor

Job Title: Temporary Part‑Time Mental Health Counselor (Fall 2026) Location: Rockhurst University, Kansas City, MO 64110 Purpose Summary The Counseling Center supports the University’s commitment to cura personalis by providing compassionate, competent, and culturally aware mental health services to students, as well as outreach to the campus community. This temporary position is pivotal in meeting students’ mental health needs through direct clinical service, outreach, education, and support of trainee clinicians. Primary Duties Provide culturally competent clinical services within a short‑term therapy framework, including individual counseling/psychotherapy, crisis intervention, clinical documentation, and appropriate referrals. Maintain on‑site presence 3–4 days per week with a direct clinical load of 18–22 hours per week. Maintain accurate clinical documentation. Participate in weekly staff meetings and group case consultation. Provide occasional consultation with faculty or staff regarding students of concern. Deliver workshops and presentations in classrooms, residence halls, and student organizations as requested. Required Qualifications Fully licensed in Missouri in a mental health related field (Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy). License‑eligible candidates are welcome to inquire. Completed a license‑eligible master’s or higher degree from an accredited program in a mental health related field. Relevant experience providing mental health counseling to college students. Proficiency and commitment to multicultural competence, with experience working with culturally diverse, underrepresented, or underserved populations. Strong interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Full licensure in Kansas for telehealth services (Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy). Minimum one (1) year of experience in a University Counseling Center setting. Proficiency with diagnostic tools (DSM‑5‑TR). Ability to work effectively with traditional and non‑traditional college students. Experience with mental health prevention and outreach activities. Experience working with students affected by sexual assault, disordered eating, and body image concerns. Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Titanium).
