Patient Advocate

Pay: $14.00/hr

Schedule: Part-time; varying hours

What You'll Do

You'll serve as the connection between patients and the clinic, ensuring every individual feels welcomed, informed, and supported throughout their therapy journey.
Patient Experience & Support

• Welcome patients with warmth and professionalism, creating a personalized experience from arrival through departure
• Serve as an advocate for patients by listening to concerns, answering questions, and helping them understand their care plans, rights, and responsibilities
• Explain clinic processes, policies, medical terminology, and treatment options in an easy-to-understand manner
• Provide resources and guidance regarding insurance, financial assistance, social services, and support programs
• Interact with admitted patients and communicate estimated wait times to ensure a positive patient experience

Coordination & Communication

• Schedule patient appointments, manage reminders, and update appointment status changes
• Coordinate care and serve as a liaison between patients, providers, specialists, billing, insurance, authorization, and administrative teams
• Handle phone calls, emails, and fax communications professionally and in a timely manner
• Respond to provider and patient inquiries regarding account balances and assist with appropriate resolutions
• Maintain clear, professional communication with patients, families, and internal teams

Advocacy & Problem Solving

• Address patient concerns, complaints, and feedback with empathy and professionalism
• Mediate communication between patients, families, and clinical staff to ensure exceptional care
• Verify insurance benefits and help patients understand their coverage
• Escalate complex issues to leadership when appropriate and follow through to resolution
• Assist patients in navigating treatment coordination and clinic resources

Operations Support

• Maintain accurate patient records and EMR documentation
• Support daily clinic organization, cleanliness, and overall facility upkeep
• Assist with moving chairs, tables, or equipment as needed
• Contribute ideas that improve the overall patient experience
• Uphold HIPAA and PCI compliance standards in all patient interactions and documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned

What Makes You a Great Fit

• High school diploma or GED required
• At least 1 year of experience in patient advocacy, medical reception, insurance verification/authorization, or a related healthcare customer service role
• Proficient with EMR systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Google Docs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, positive attitude
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
• Highly organized with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
• Self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable
• Team-oriented with exceptional attention to detail
• Committed to maintaining patient privacy, HIPAA compliance, and confidentiality

Work Environment

• On-site clinic environment with a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and assisting patients throughout the day
• May assist with exercise setup, equipment, and therapist support during treatment sessions
• Frequent use of computers, phones, and office equipment
• Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds
