Staff Accountant

A Chicago based nonprofit organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to support its day‑to‑day accounting operations and month end processes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands‑on in all core accounting functions, is comfortable in a small and dynamic environment, and wants ownership of key workflows. Responsibilities Handle daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks including bank reconciliations, journal entries, ACH collections, and month end checks Assist with coding, keying, reviewing, and processing accounts payable Prepare and review month end transactions and support internal month end audit procedures Support annual audit preparation, reconciliations, and reporting Manage the organization’s credit card program including cardholder reporting, coding, expense review, and related journal entries Work on process and workflow improvements to strengthen accounting operations Complete special projects and ad hoc requests from senior leadership Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field 3 or more years of professional accounting experience preferred Understanding of monthly close and reporting cycles Ability to work in a small, fast moving, and collaborative environment Strong communication skills and attention to detail Ability to identify and recommend process improvements Experience with nonprofit accounting is preferred Familiarity with QuickBooks or other accounting systems Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard accounting software This role will be a temporary-to-hire opportunity. #J-18808-Ljbffr SBI Partners
