POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Development will work to (1) strategically enhance, implement, and manage a comprehensive fundraising program by supporting the development of a diverse and stable base of support from individual, corporate, and foundation donors, (2) oversee all communications and community engagement activities. As a key member of the Leadership team, the DOD oversees the Development & Communications Department and reports to the Executive Director and partners with them in maximizing the impact of the Board of Directors. WHAT YOUR DAYS CONSIST OF Development Leadership & Strategy Partner with Executive Director to design and implement annual/long-term development plans Perform comprehensive analysis and interpret statistical data to forecast revenue and develop effective strategies to ensure that fundraising programs maximize individual gifts. Supervise and equip Development staff to set and achieve individual/team Goals & Objectives. Monitor goals and report on execution of annual fundraising plan. Oversee Development Operations processes and activities to ensure accurate data and donor records, swift acknowledgement of gifts, etc. Help build a diverse base of support from individual, corporate, foundation, and government sources to support the annual fundraising goal. Assist with developing and refining department documents such as grant documents, fund development plan, case for support, gift acceptance policy, and impact report. Individual Giving & Strategic Partnerships Managing portfolio of strategic partnerships and individual/major donors (Moves Management). Oversee strategy for engaging corporate and other revenue-generating partners. Develop strategies to share gratitude with donors and implement a meaningful donor recognition program. Plan and carry out donor engagement activities such as appeals, annual and special campaigns, and special events. Develop written and digital content and drive design for donor-facing campaigns, initiatives, and activities; both in-person and virtual. Donor Events Oversee strategy and implementation of donor events. Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Board of Directors, and Development Staff to oversee and grow leadership and revenue for event opportunities. Grantmaking Oversee and manage all Consultant activities, including LOIs, submissions, and reporting. Prospect new foundation opportunities and support the Executive Director to cultivate relationships. Develop and manage the grants calendar. Community Engagement Communications Oversee strategy and communications staffs work creating and executing Safe Parking LAs communications and marketing calendar, including social media, email, website, mailers, annual report and special reports, presentations, and public relations engagement. Ensure that branding and messages are aligned with mission, values, and best practices. Volunteer Management Oversee success of volunteer program. Supervise and equip Development & volunteer staff to set and achieve individual/team Goals & Objectives. Ensure strong volunteer recruitment and management. Create and manage events for Volunteer appreciation and engagement. Ensure equity lens and trauma-informed approach are utilized in all planning and coordination. Outreach Oversee community partner cultivation and stewardship, including leveraging strategic and community partners to advance our mission. Sector Leadership & Advocacy Elevate Safe Parking LAs brand as a sector leader through diverse advocacy activities. QUALIFICATIONS At least 5 years of development/fundraising experience with demonstrated strategic thinking and success in leadership, budgeting, grants, major gifts/donor engagement, events, and communications, and a deep understanding of the relationship between organizational strategies/goals and development. At least 3 years of experience successfully managing direct reports, liaising with Boards of Directors, and collaborating with Leadership Teams. Able to successfully balance the needs of the organization and the needs of individual team members. Experience in effectively managing a high-performing and diverse team - specifically building trust; setting ambitious, yet realistic, goals, clearly communicating, and holding self and others accountable to the goals without succumbing to perfectionism or false urgency; delegating true ownership while staying engaged; giving developmental feedback; proactively and thoughtfully addressing performance issues; and retaining top talent. Demonstrated history of fundraising success via donor/major donor cultivation, foundation relations, grants project management, and donor-centric events. Knowledge and understanding of grant writing best practices, editing, storytelling for funders. Proficient in overseeing successful, high-profile fundraising events. Successful experience developing and executing fundraising campaigns, with preference for major gifts, capital campaigns, and recurring donor programs. Ability to collect and assess data related to individual donor cultivation to develop and spearhead human-centered initiatives that align with organizational priorities and goals. Successful history engaging contributors at each stage of the donor lifecycle. Understands what makes nonprofits successful through a systems and equity lens. Strong judgment and discernment to identify practical solutions and solve problems. You keep the big picture in mind while managing the details. You can weigh multiple and competing factors; the impact of various decisions; who may be helped or harmed as a result of those decisions; and identify practical options. You identify and troubleshoot problems as they develop and are able to trace issues back to root causes to identify lasting solutions. You are also able to make decisions that may be unpopular in the short term to get to better overall outcomes. Ability to work closely with finance and program teams to ensure tracking systems are well integrated. Experience reviewing departmental resources and creating the departmental budget and expense tracking. Creative and analytical thinker, attention to detail, and meeting competing priorities and project milestone deadlines with strong project management and technical and organizational skills. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite (inc. Teams), and CRM systems management and optimization. DonorPerfect experience preferred. Ability to self-manage time and work flexible hours when needed. Strong communications and public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate ideas with enthusiasm to diverse audiences. Passion for the mission of Safe Parking LA; background working in the homelessness space is a plus. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to write participant data accurately, cohesive reports, and professional correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from your supervisor, participants, Safe Parking LA teammates, partner organizations, and the public. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret organizational procedures, governmental regulations, and news alerts from public agencies. Ability to respond effectively and compassionately to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Spanish or other language skills, highly desirable. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
