Job Details Job Summary With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members. The PCT values the uniqueness of each individual and addresses the physiological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients served by Jefferson Health. PCTs may collaborate with all clinical departments (including telehealth) and designated staff at the patient’s site to facilitate and assist with telehealth encounters between patients and providers. Job Duties Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners. Perform validated and designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under the direction of licensed clinical team members. Actively promote and maintain a safe patient care environment. Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations. Conduct patient rounds as assigned, anticipate patient needs, and answer/respond to patient call light or pages promptly. May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs. May be required to facilitate, under the direction of a distant provider, a clinical exam that includes the utilization of peripheral devices (e.g., electronic stethoscope), technology (e.g., video conferencing equipment), and software (e.g., Epic, Vidyo) to ensure a comprehensive virtual care encounter. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and their role in an interprofessional team. Ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role. Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis. Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks. Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner. Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Use the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care. BLS – Basic Life Support (AHA – American Heart Association). Additional Qualifications LVHN colleagues must successfully complete LVHN's inexperienced technical partner course upon hire. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs; examples include pushing or pulling patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs push force), and lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing and walking. Patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
