Assistant Director (Device Management & Technology Operations)

The Assistant Director (Device Management & Technology Operations) plays a strategic role in ensuring the seamless operation and continuous improvement of technology services across the district. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of district devices, optimizing service delivery frameworks, and supporting digital learning through the strategic integration of cloud platforms such as Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Teams, and Schoology. With a deep understanding of digital equity, accessibility, and sustainable technology practices, the Assistant Director drives operational excellence by aligning IT workflows with instructional and administrative priorities. The role demands a data-driven mindset to analyze performance metrics, streamline processes, and proactively address issues that may impact instructional continuity. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to lead cross-functional teams, and the capacity to manage vendor relationships, budgets, and technical infrastructure with accountability. This individual will be a strategic thinker capable of balancing long-term planning with day-to-day incident resolution while fostering a culture of service excellence and innovation. The Assistant Director is expected to demonstrate expertise in help desk operations, device management systems such as JAMF, Intune, and Google Admin Console, and IT service management frameworks. Working in close collaboration with Instructional Technology, the Assistant Director will ensure device and system readiness to support modern learning environments and promote equitable access to technology for all students and staff. This includes supporting hybrid, blended, and remote learning models through reliable infrastructure and platform integration. This position directly supervises several key roles within the IT department, including Device Engineer and Device Management Specialist, ensuring effective coordination of technical support, system configuration, and lifecycle management initiatives. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or advanced certification in IT management or a related discipline is preferred. CERTIFICATION PMP preferred but not required WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in IT service delivery, device management, or related IT operations. At least 3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing IT service teams and device lifecycle management. Collaborate with Instructional Technology and other departments to ensure seamless integration of devices with Establish and maintain scalable, secure MDM frameworks (e.g., JAMF, Intune, Google Admin Console) with automated compliance monitoring and remote support capabilities. Develop strategic vendor relationships and evaluate partner performance to ensure cost-effective and scalable solutions. Monitor, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to device usage, service response times, and customer satisfaction. Implement district-wide SOPs, escalation procedures, and support documentation to enhance service delivery consistency and technician readiness. Provide leadership in system upgrades, patch management, and routine device configuration updates. Forecast technology needs and budget for hardware refresh cycles and support team capacity. Conduct periodic training and cross-training of IT staff to maintain high levels of technical proficiency and service coverage. Identify trends in user support tickets to recommend proactive technical solutions or training interventions. Ensure compliance with district security policies, data privacy standards, and accessibility regulations. Support IT disaster recovery planning and continuity of operations for device-dependent learning and administrative functions. Manage the full lifecycle of student and staff devices—including procurement, inventory tracking, deployment, technical support, maintenance, and decommissioning. Partner with school-based IT teams and leadership to ensure equitable distribution and support of devices across all campuses. Support data analytics and reporting efforts related to technology adoption, device performance, and support efficiency.
