Special Education Paraeducator DT (9950 Sped)

Special Education Paraeducator – Hollingsworth (Day Treatment) Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026 Location: Hollingsworth Academy, Vancouver, Washington Schedule: 7 Hours per Day (7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch) on regular days and designated full Wednesdays; 4.5 Hours per Day (7:40 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.) on Wednesdays and Middle School early‑release days. 190 days per year (180 student days / 10 holidays). Position Status: Program Support Position Duration: Permanent Classification Group: Paraeducators Class III Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range; experience credit may apply for prior similar occupational service. Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, basic long‑term disability, basic life and AD&D insurance through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Eligibility for FSA, DCAP, HSA, FPFSA (w/HDHP) and other supplemental benefits Employer‑employee funded retirement benefits through the Department of Retirement Services (DRS) Paid holidays, sick, vacation, personal, religious and bereavement leave; additional negotiated leave under the collective bargaining agreement Paraeducator Employment Requirements At least 18 years old and hold a high‑school diploma or equivalent Meet one or more of the following: Pass the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS) with a score of 455 or higher Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100‑level or higher from an accredited college or university Complete a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council Upon hire, new paraeducators will complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist the Special Education classroom teacher in supervising and working with elementary and/or secondary students Monitor students at all times Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents De‑escalate students in crisis Provide one‑to‑one and group instruction to meet students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Assist in evaluating and directing instruction to maximize each student’s potential Maintain accurate data related to school behavior and academics Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal assessments Implement behavioral management strategies as outlined by the teacher Organize and prepare a variety of instructional materials Maintain classroom order and other student areas Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Provide physical, therapeutic interventions, including restraint of students when needed, using CPI‑approved techniques Remain calm and emotionally available in volatile situations Act as an effective team member Provide supportive care tasks such as diapering, feeding, handling bodily fluids, lifting or positioning students as necessary Attend training sessions as required to stay up‑to‑date with special education practices OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Perform other related duties as assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS Vision 66–100% Speaking 66–100% Hearing 66–100% Standing 33–66% Sitting 33–66% Walking 33–66% Writing up to 33% Bending 33–66% Stooping 33–66% Reaching 33–66% Lifting 33–66% (up to 50 lbs. individually; more than 50 lbs. with assistance) Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials MENTAL DEMANDS Reading documents, 66–100% Constant interruptions, 66–100% Verbal communication, 66–100% Confidentiality, 66–100% Written communication, up to 33% Multiple concurrent tasks, 66–100% TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Computer, typewriter, copy machines, telephone, and all other tools necessary to perform essential functions MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Basic typing/keyboarding Previous experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders Experience working with a team to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans Knowledge and/or experience of child and adolescent mental health issues Prefer knowledge and/or experience with Collaborative Problem Solving techniques Previous experience working with students in academic areas and/or professional coursework in special education Demonstrated ability to communicate, monitor, supervise and manage difficult students and help them succeed Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff and families Personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative and cooperativeness Physical strength and ability to manage aggressive behavior of students Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team Ability to problem‑solve effectively as incidents occur Ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption Willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TOGETHER WITH CULTURAL COMPETENCE AND EQUITY Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and interest in learning about others’ identities Support a positive school environment that celebrates and respects diversity, making learning relevant to students of various cultures Participate in activities and discussions that increase cultural competence Demonstrate commitment to equitable outcomes for all students Recognize each person as a unique individual while honoring group heritage Commit to equal opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, gender, physical limitation, sexual orientation or religious belief NONDISCRIMINATION STATEMENT Evergreen Public Schools does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
