AST | Certified Surgical Technologist - Surgery

This full-time role with on-call responsibilities offers an opportunity to collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and surgical staff to ensure exceptional patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

General Summary

As a Certified Surgical Technologist, you will utilize sterile techniques and specialized equipment to assist surgeons in performing a variety of surgical operations. Your role is vital in preparing the operating room, managing instruments, and supporting the surgical team to maintain a safe and efficient environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare individual surgical cases accurately using surgeon preference cards and appropriate instruments or prosthetic devices.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to support surgical procedures effectively.
• Employ aseptic techniques with dexterity, anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
• Operate sterilization equipment following established protocols.
• Monitor implantable devices using sterile technique and ensure proper function.
• Inspect and verify the functionality of surgical equipment prior to procedures.
• Maintain and care for surgical instruments, tables, cautery units, and specialty equipment.
• Demonstrate accountability, work independently, adapt to change, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.
• Organize information, maintain a clean and functional workspace, and manage time efficiently.
• Perform delegated tasks under the direct supervision of the surgeon to uphold quality and patient safety.

Education

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.

Experience

Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licenses

• Current Surgical Technologist Certification.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Expect regular exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and body fluids, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Physical discomfort is minimal but present.
